Roomies

Jacob and Peter are now roommates. Our master plan would have this happen a little later than now. But since Peter decided he didn't want to stay in his crib, toddler bed, or room for very long, we moved up our timeline. The two boys were constantly coming to each other's door and checking on the other one (their rooms are right beside each other) so we figured they might go to bed more easily if they were in the same room.

We got toddler sized bunk beds from IKEA (love that store!) where the bottom "bunk" is basically a mattress on the floor. Jacob got the top bunk and absolutely loves it. If we had known this was the solution to all his bedtime battles, we probably would have bought the bunk beds a long time ago before gaining a roommate.

This transition has not been without its own troubles, but we are slowly tackling each one as they come. One of which is the problem of Peter climbing the ladder to bother Jacob. Last weekend Brian built a door on the ladder with a latch that only Jacob can access (see pictures below).

I love having an engineer for a husband. These kind of requests present a worthy challenge instead of another "honey do list" item. Plus, he got to go to Home Depot and use power tools. Now there is great satisfaction in knowing it works like a charm and we are one step closer to a normal shorter bedtime routine . . . maybe?

Awww, Peter just wants his own super cool tent on his bed, probably. Glad the solution is working!
