A Day at the Beach; A Geography Lesson

Growing up near the Atlantic Ocean, I think a beach to be that which is beside an ocean. But, when I moved to Minnesota my definition of the word was broadened. The dictionary defines beach as a shore of a body of water covered by sand, gravel, or larger rock fragments. Well, in the land of 10.000 lakes we have an abundance of bodies of water that consequently also have beaches. It's still weird to me to say we're going to the beach when we live approximately 24 hours of either coast, but do as the locals do, right?
So, that being said, Brian's mom and I took the kids to a (ahem) beach of a smaller local lake and they had a blast. Peter loved digging in the sand and building sandcastles while Jacob splashed in the water or threw handfuls of sand into it to hear it thump. Leah enjoyed being outdoors but eventually fell asleep.
It was a fun preview of our trip to the real "beach" in a couple of weeks (we're going to Myrtle Beach for a couple of days when we visit my parents in August.) We took Jacob when he was 15 months old, but I'm most looking forward to introducing Peter to a real beach and the ocean!
