Now that she's eight months old, Leah really enjoys playing with toys. So, for her first Christmas, Santa brought her a few that brought some girlyness to our family's toy collection. She also thought the wrapping paper was a fun toy too.
The boys were super excited about celebrating Jesus' birthday (most likely because they got to eat cake and open presents too). At Mass on Christmas Eve, Jacob was so excited to add the baby Jesus to the manger scene in the church that he had a hard time waiting. We had been adding the characters of the nativity to our advent calendar at home and he knew that we were waiting for Jesus to be born. In fact, during the children's homily when he was supposed to be listening to our priest read a story, he wandered away. I found him kneeling at the manger scene staring at it.
Later that night when we were tucking the boys into bed, Brian said he thought Peter looked a little terrified at the thought of some old man coming into his house to leave him presents. I laughed and agreed that it might be a little unnerving for a two year old to think about, but if mom and dad were okay with it then he should be too. Plus, he'd be hooked when he woke up the next morning to presents and candy.
We had a relaxing Christmas morning opening presents (starting at 6:30 am yikes!) and it was a lot of fun taking our time and enjoying the new toys Santa brought. We were also able to video conference with my parents in NC so they could see the kids open the presents they gave them. Later, we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa York's house for an early dinner and were so exhausted that we called it a day at 6pm (it felt like midnight to us parents).
Below are some pictures. Merry Christmas, Everyone!
