Memorial Weekend Getaway

Our plans changed unexpectedly last minute for our trip to drive to North Carolina, but fortunately we were able to still take a little break to get away from home for a few days. We discovered a great rate at a hotel in Duluth (2 hours North) that has an indoor water park. The kids had a blast and we were able to spend some time together as a family having fun. The hotel is the Edgewater Resort and WaterPark Hotel in Duluth, MN right on the shore of Lake Superior. For those Minnesotans who are looking for a fun getaway anytime of year this is a great place.

The water park had a couple of standout features. One was a vortex pool where the water spun clockwise really fast. The other was a huge bucket above the kiddie playground area that would fill up and dump water all over the playground about every 5 minutes. A bell would ring really loudly to let you know it was going to drop and the boys dubbed it the "Ding, Ding, Ding Bucket." Peter was pretty timid most of the time, but eventually warmed up to trying some of the slides. His favorite was the hot tub, though. Leah went down a slide or too and swam with us in the big pool where the basketball hoops were. There were balls everywhere and that's pretty much what we heard her say the entire time we were there, "Bah, Bah, Bah."

The hotel also had a mini golf course and playground outside and an arcade inside. At the arcade, Peter won the jackpot on the same game twice and is now convinced that he's supposed to get hundreds of tickets every time he plays. We also spent some time down at the Canal Park district (on the shore of Lake Superior) so the boys could see the lighthouse and lift bridge again). We stayed in a hotel in Canal Park the last time we were in Duluth (blogged about earlier here).

It was a great trip and the boys are asking to go back ASAP!

Duluth really is great. We went there while still living in MN and it is our favorite family trip, too. Looks like you found a fun place to stay! Wish we were closer to go back...maybe someday.
