Brian turns 30 today!

Today, Brian turned 30! The kids and I drove to downtown Minneapolis, where Brian's office is located, and met him for lunch at the Skyroom (a cafeteria style eatery with an endless salad bar ) at Macy's, a.k.a. "the star" to the kids. Brian was able to come home early with us afterwards, too! Later this afternoon, Jacob and I began making Brian's birthday cake. We made Julia Child's Chocolate and Almond Cake. (I recently saw the movie Julie and Julia and have been dying to try out one of Julia Child's recipes). It did not turn out like it was supposed to, but it was still good. Jacob INSISTED on 30 candles for the cake. We almost set the house on fire, but it was quick song of "Happy Birthday" to avoid just that. We also made a lasagna casserole for dinner, as Brian requested. Brian's birthday gift from the kids' included a box of Good and Plenty candy and a batter bowl with a lid to aid in his Saturday Morning Pancake Breakfast tradition. Tomorrow night Brian and I will be enjoying a full 24 hours without children when we go to Red Wing, MN for an overnight stay! Here are some pictures from today.
