To be honest, when I first learned my due date with Alex was in January, I immediately began worrying that he would get RSV (Respiratory Synctial Virus) and need hospitalization. We had been blessed to be extremely healthy this cold and flu season, but all it takes is one little bug and there's not much you can do to keep kids from getting it from each other when they live in the same house.
Leah was really sick with a virus a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't long before Alex developed the same symptoms. Unfortunately, Alex's little body was not able to withstand the effects as well as Leah and we ended up in the hospital. He had developed an ear infection in one ear and the viral culture showed it was RSV. He was not a happy baby! Alex and I spent three nights in the hospital and were finally cleared to go home when he was able to breathe without the extra oxygen support for 24 hours. It seems like such a blur now, but he is definitely doing much better and hopefully we will avoid any more complications from these pesky winter viruses.

The first day in the hospital, Alex had an IV in one leg, an Oxygen and Heart Rate Monitor on his opposite foot and a nasal cannula to deliver oxygen through his nose and help his breathing.

Toward the end, he was feeling much better and showed it with his first "social smile." What a relief for this stressed out mommy to see!
